Find Washington County Fugitives

Washington County keeps two separate doors for two separate questions. Want to browse the sheriff's picked most wanted fugitives? The official photo list is where you start. Need to know whether a certain name carries a warrant? That answer comes from the county courts or an in-person check, since the sheriff will not confirm warrants by phone. And whatever you find, do not approach the person listed. Follow the court record to see what happens next.

Washington County Most Wanted List

The Washington County Sheriff's Office Most Wanted page is the county's official source for wanted notices. A short disclaimer appears first. Then come the entries, each with a photo hosted on the sheriff's own site. Nothing here is copied or reposted. You can sort by name, date, or arrested status, which makes scanning the agency's page quick work.

Keep the list in perspective. The sheriff picks which notices to publish. Most active warrants never appear there. Treat any name as a current lead, nothing more. People get arrested, warrants get recalled, and stale copies spread fast once the official page changes. Open the sheriff's live Most Wanted interface before trusting any name or status.

The official interface below shows where the live information lives.

Washington County Wanted Record Fields

A wanted detail is not a jail booking record. It names the subject of a selected notice and gives the stated basis for the warrant. Custody status is a separate question. Washington County's detail page provided the following fields.

FieldWhat the sheriff displays
Photograph and nameAn identifying image and the name tied to the notice
Warrant reasonThe alleged basis stated by the agency
Last-known addressAn address associated with the listing, which may no longer be current
Personal descriptorsSex, birth date, hair, eyes, height, weight, and race

These fields help sort out people who share a name. They won't tell you where anyone is right now. The page promises no caution flag, reward, or anonymous-tip program. The later court outcome isn't there either. For a public case, MyCase or the Washington County Clerk holds the next stage of the record.

Use Washington County Wanted Notices

Read the notice at its source and keep the task narrow. The sheriff's page can change at any time, so a saved image or third-party repost may no longer match what the agency shows today.

  1. Open the sheriff's Most Wanted page and accept its disclaimer.
  2. Use the name, date, or arrested-status sort control to review the live notices.
  3. Compare the full detail, not just a photograph or a similar name.
  4. If you recognize someone, do not approach, follow, confront, or try to detain that person.
  5. Send the information to the sheriff through a published phone or online tip channel.
  6. Check the county's official custody and booking-record guide only to learn whether a later county booking appears.
Safety first: Call 911 for an immediate threat. Otherwise, report what you know and let trained law-enforcement staff assess it.

A missing jail-roster entry does not cancel a warrant. The person may not be in county custody. Booking may still be underway, or another agency may hold them. A roster entry, in turn, only records intake and listed charges. It says nothing about where the wanted matter stands.

Washington County Wanted Tips

Washington County publishes three direct paths for information about a listed person. None of the wanted materials promises anonymity or a reward. So don't submit a tip on either assumption. Share concise facts. Location, time, direction of travel, or a vehicle description all help, and none of them put you at risk.

Washington County Sheriff's Office

Main and non-emergency: 812-883-5999
Crime Tip Hotline: 812-883-6566
Online: Official crime-tip channel
Address: 801 S. Jackson St., Salem, IN 47167

Don't call in a tip just because a face rings a bell. Read the identifying detail first. Then tell the agency what you saw yourself. The sheriff decides what to do with the information. Public comments and social posts spread errors, tip off the person, and can drag in someone uninvolved.

Check Washington County Warrants

Washington County has no online portal for general criminal-warrant searches. The sheriff's FAQ is blunt about it. Staff will not give warrant information over the phone. An affected person is directed to Washington County Circuit Court or Superior Court, or to an in-person check at the sheriff's office with identification. That last option carries a catch. Show up with an active warrant and you can be arrested on the spot. Anyone worried about their own status may want an attorney first. Read the sheriff's warrant-check directions in the official FAQ before picking a route.

Washington County sheriff warrant check FAQ record

The FAQ confirms the local limits: no phone confirmation and no public county criminal-warrant database.

  1. Search Indiana MyCase by party name or case number for a public, indexed court case.
  2. Contact the Washington County Clerk about the public court record. The clerk is the records custodian, not the judge.
  3. Contact Circuit or Superior Court when the sheriff's FAQ directs you there.
  4. For a warrant that may concern you, ask an attorney how to address it safely through the court.
  5. Use an in-person sheriff check with identification only after understanding that an active warrant may be enforced.

A MyCase name search is a smart first move. It can still miss things, though. Sealed files stay hidden, and so do confidential matters. Spelling slips and slow indexing skew results too. The clerk can tell you exactly what a court file holds. Nothing here helps you dodge service. If you call or visit, bring the full name. Add a case number if you have one. Don't ask staff to guess a match from a photo.

MyCase also accepts citation and cross-reference numbers. A birth date helps sort people who share a name. On an open case, the chronological summary might list a warrant event along with later hearings or orders. The online summary won't show every filing, so order a full or certified copy from the clerk. Circuit Court and Superior Court handle the cases themselves, yet the judge's office is not the records counter. When a confirmed warrant touches you, deal with it through a lawyer and the court. An old wanted-page capture, a social media post, or a third-party name result won't show the matter has ended. A recall, service, or arrest must be verified in the current official record.

Washington County Warrant Types

The right search route depends on the kind of record you need. There's no county portal that sorts criminal warrants into tidy categories, but three key distinctions will steer you away from common mistakes.

Record typeBest route
Criminal arrest warrantMyCase, the Washington County Clerk, Circuit or Superior Court, or the sheriff's in-person ID check
Selected Most Wanted noticeThe sheriff's photo-bearing Most Wanted page, which is not comprehensive
Tax warrantA separate civil or state tax-collection matter, not the sheriff's criminal-warrant search

Words matter here. A warrant is a court's authorization for a stated action. A wanted notice is the sheriff's public alert about a chosen person. An arrest begins custody, and a disposition is how the court finally resolves a charge. One record can't substitute for another, so know which one you're actually reading.

Need a copy? Contact the clerk at 801 S. Jackson St., Suite 102, Salem, or call 812-883-5748. Circuit Court sits in Suite 103 and answers at 812-883-5302. Superior Court is listed at 801 Jackson St., 812-883-4949. Copy requests go to the clerk, never to a judge.

Wanted Records and Custody

A wanted notice never tells you someone is in custody. If Washington County books the person, the Detention Center roster may show a booking photo, a number, the date and time, and the listed charges. Someone released during the county's short public window may show up in the 48 Hour Release view instead. Neither screen gives the final court outcome.

Federal tools work on a different scale. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and generally refreshes daily. You can search by federal identifier or by name with optional personal fields, but it shows no photograph and has nothing to do with routine Washington County jail custody. ICE's locator only applies when immigration custody is truly involved. The U.S. Marshals Service runs no general public prisoner locator. View the official BOP inmate-search interface when a federal sentence is the custody category that fits.

Washington County federal custody record search through BOP

Keep the limits straight. The federal locator only confirms federal sentenced custody; it can't verify a county warrant, a county booking, or a Washington County court outcome.

Washington County Wanted Updates

No verified Washington County sheriff mobile app turned up in the official site, its sitemap, or linked channels. Watch out, since similar county names can point you to an app from another state. The sheriff does offer SMS and email site-update alerts, along with press releases and an official social presence. Those channels are selective, so they don't promise that every warrant, arrest, or booking photo will surface there.

Each alert system answers a different question. CodeRED handles local emergency and community notices. Indiana SAVIN/VINE covers custody-status searches and notifications. A sheriff site alert flags newly published web content. None of them replaces the official wanted page, the court file, or direct agency confirmation.

Start by identifying the stage. Browse the sheriff's wanted list for selected notices. Turn to the courts for a specific warrant concern. Check the jail roster for county custody, and follow MyCase plus the clerk for the case outcome.
